Mileage in Excel? Import it into the program and save time

Do you have mileage in Excel? Great. Now import it into the program and save time.

Many people start keeping mileage in Excel - this is natural, because the sheet is at hand, and a simple table can be prepared in a few minutes. The problem arises only later: the growing number of rows, mistakes in formulas, and correcting rates, counting summaries for each month....

Therefore, in our billing program mileage at mileage.net we added the possibility of importing data from Excel. All you need is a simple column file:

  • date entry,
  • route travelled,
  • number of kilometers,
  • destination.

...and all your work to date goes into the program, which continues to "count itself."

Why is Excel alone not enough with mileage?

Excel is great to start with, but over time the usual problems begin:

  • you need to keep an eye on formulas and ranges,
  • It's easy to overwrite something or accidentally delete it,
  • It is more difficult to prepare a clear summary for accounting,
  • Each year/month is a new file or tab that needs to be organized.

The mileage program does it for you: keeps an eye on calculations, rates, totals and a clear report, which you can give to your accountant or print for your records.

Excel import allows you to combine these two worlds:
➡️ you start in a familiar sheet,
➡️ and when you want to have "order as in the program" - you just upload the data.

How does the Excel import work in kilometer.net?

We have prepared a function that reads your Excel file with basic columns:

  • km - number of kilometers traveled,
  • date - day of transit,
  • route - A description of the route (e.g., "Krakow - Wieliczka - Krakow").

After uploading the file, the program:

  • Loads all the lines From the sheet.
  • Converts values - Multiplies km × rate, adds up rides.
  • Arranges everything in a clear mileage, ready to download, save and send.

You don't have to rewrite each entry by hand - all your existing mileage from Excel "jumps" into the program.

Step by step: from Excel to finished mileage in software

  1. Prepare an Excel file
Make sure you have the columns: date, route, km, rate.
These can be columns in your current file - just name them appropriately or adjust them on import.

2. Go to mileage.net
You can use the program after logging in or, in some cases, create mileage without creating an account (it's worth logging in, though, so nothing gets lost).

3. Select the option to import from Excel
You select the file you have on disk and indicate the relevant columns (date, route, km, rate).

4. Check the data preview
You will see how the program read your rides. If something is wrong - you can go back to Excel, correct and upload the file again.

5. Save the mileage and download the document
When everything looks good, you save the statement and can download it in a convenient form, give it to your accountant or keep it on file.

What do you gain by importing from Excel into the program?

After the import, it is no longer a "regular sheet." It's full-fledged mileage in the system, which:

  • counts values and summaries,
  • allows easily correct individual entries,
  • enables storage of many kilometers (e.g., different cars, different periods),
  • helps get your documents in order - Everything is in one place, but also in one tool.

Excel remains your starting point, but it's the program on kilometer.net that becomes the main place to work with the data.

Start in Excel, end in software

You don't have to choose: "either Excel or the program". You can:

  • continue to note rides in the sheet, if that's more convenient for you,
  • and every month or quarter import everything into the program And generate ready mileage.

Thanks to a simple column scheme (date, route, km, rate), the import is quick, and you gain:

  • more order in the documents.
  • less manual counting,
  • fewer mistakes.
  • more order in the documents.
